There both simple to use, feature 6 pictures and are all about swiping. But there are some key differences between Tinder and Bumble, namely:
- In Bumble it’s all about female empowerment. Women have to be the ones to message first, and if they don’t do so within 24 hours, the match disappears. Interestingly, women are more likely to message first on tinder, but this really puts us in the driver’s seat. Which is cool.
- Tinder has way more people. It has 25 million compared to Bumble’s 12.5 million worldwide. So which one you use depends on whether you find endless swiping advantageous or overwhelming.
- Instead of a Superlike, you get an ‘extend’ feature in Bumble. So profiles that superlike you come to the top of your pile and you can see they’ve superliked you. However the extend feature extends the time you have to message your match. Personally, I prefer superlikes - why not just talk instead of extending?
- The guy to girl ratio in Bumble is roughly equal, whereas guys outnumber girls about 2:1 on tinder. So as a girl, I love tinder, but as a guy, maybe give Bumble a try…
- They both have different upgrade features. Tinder plus gives you extra superlikes and the ability to change location. Tinder Gold lets you see who liked you. Bumble Boost lets you see who likes you, lets you reconnect with matches that happened more than 24 hours ago and lets you extend the 24 hour contact window.
- Tinder is the biggest dating app. Period. But 76% of users live in urban areas, so if you’re not in an urban area, it could be problematic. Bumble’s user pool is smaller than tinder’s but 60% of matches result in a conversation. Which is better than tinder (at least for me).
- Tinder has more of a hookup reputation. But really it can be used for anything and I’ve met some amazing people from it. However, with bumble, you can switch to Bumble B
